Two new records of the family Achipteriidae (Acari, Oribatida) for mite’s fauna of Iran

چکیده
Oribatid mites are primarily terrestrial and often dominant microarthropods in litter, soil, and canopy. The family Achipteriidae Thor, 1929, contains seven genera, four subgenera, 90 species and five subspecies in the world. Achipteriid mites are saprophages and mycophages that apparently feed opportunistically on available resources of fungi, algae and decaying plant material. This family is known from the Holarctic, Oriental and Neotropical regions with most species described from the North and Central America, Europe and East Asia. Adults of this family have the following characters: prodorsum with lamellae, adjacent or fused medially; lamellar cusps, tutorium, translamella well-developed; notogaster with immovable pteromorphs, which bears knife-like humeral process or not; 10 pairs of notogastral setae or alveoli; octotaxic system developed as porose areas or saccules, pedotectum I large, extending to base of bothridium, pedotectum II small; anogenital setation: 6-1-2-3; genu IV often concave dorsally, subequal in length or longer than tibia IV. To date, Anachipteria deficiens Grandjean, 1932, Campachipteria petiti (Trave, 1960), Parachipteria sp. and Achipteria coleoptrata (Linnaeus, 1758) have been reported from Iran. In order to study achipteriid fauna of East Azerbaijan province, soil samples were taken from five different regions monthly during May to October in 2015. Mites were extracted using Berlese funnels. Specimens were cleared in Nesbitt’s fluid and mounted in Hoyer's medium on microscope slides. Slides were kept in an oven at 45 °C for 3-4 weeks. In this study, three species were collected and identified, of which two species were new records for Iran (marked with two asterisks) and one genus, one subgenus and one species were new records for East Azerbaijan province (marked with one asterisk). The list of species is as follows: Achipteria* (Achipteria*) nitens** (Nicolet, 1855), Parachipteria punctata** (Nicolet, 1855) and A. (A.) coleoptrata* (Linnaeus, 1758). Specimens are deposited in the Acarology Laboratory, Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tabriz, Tabriz, Iran.
