چکیده
In recent years, increased concern about insecticide residues on foodstuffs and environment has led to considering safer pesticides, inert dusts and high and low temperatures in stored- product pest control programs. In this study, effect of three pyrethroids (deltamethrin, lambdacyhalothrin and fenvalerate), two inert dusts (zeolite and kaolin) and low temperature (-18 C) were tested on adults of saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis in laboratory conditions (30 ± 2 °C, 65 ± 10% RH and 14:10 h (light: dark)). Insects were exposed to the treatments on concrete surface prepared in the Petri dishes. Based on the preliminary experiments, dose ranges were determined as 0.25-1.5 mg ai / L, 1-5 mg a.i / L, 24-300 mg a.i / L, 4-30 g / m2 and 5-40 g / m2 for deltamethrin, lamdacyhalothrin, fenvalerate, zeolite and kaolin, respectively. Five doses in the mentioned ranges were tested along with a control (water). Insecticides were applied on concrete surface using a Potter tower sprayer. Zeolite and kaolin were weighted and dusted on the surface of concrete. Twenty 7-21 days adults were released in each Petri dish. Mortality of insects was recorded 48 h after treatments. Bioassays were repeated three times at different days. Adults of O. surinamensis were exposed to -18 C, at 10, 12, 15, 19 and 23 min intervals. The treated insects were kept in laboratory conditions for 24 hours after thermal treatments, and then the mortalities were recorded. LC50 values calculated for deltamethrin, lamdacyhalothrin and fenvalerate were 0.65, 1.83, 141.36 mg ai / L, respectively. LD50 values of zeolite and kaolin were 7.7 g / m2 and 12 g / m2. The LT50 estimated at -18 C, was 16 min for O. surinamensis. The results obtained from this study can be used as basic and preliminary information for practical control programs of saw-toothed grain beetle in stored products.
