چکیده
European red mite, Panonychus ulmi, is an aggressive pest of apple orchards in Iran. Many acaricides and some other chemicals are used to control mites but most of them do not have satisfactory efficacy levels. SilTAC® 90% EC is a mixture product contains polymeric silica compound, silanes and siloxanes with physical mode of action which immobilizes pests. The main aim of the present study was to evaluate different application rates of SilTAC® to control both nymph and adult population of P. ulmi in an apple orchard in Sargizeh village in Maragheh, East Azarbaijan province, Iran in June 2018. Trials were conducted in completely randomized design replicated five times with three doses of SilTAC® (0.5, 1 and 1.5 L / 1000 L of water) and one dose of cyflumetofen 20% SC (Danisaraba®) with 0.7 L / 1000 L of water. Water treatment was applied as control. For evaluation, four leaves from different sides of each tree were cut and number of individual nymph and adult were counted using a laboratory binocular prior to treatment and 24, 48, 72 h and 7 days after initial treatment. Mortality was calculated by applying Henderson-Tilton formula and means of mortality were compared by Duncan multi-ranges test. Results revealed that all three application rates of SilTAC® had no significant difference (α= 0.05) after 24 h post treatment. However, 48 h observations demonstrated significant difference between treatments as both 1 and 1.5 L of SilTAC® resulted in 82.6% and 92.3% mortality rates, respectively. Same trend was observed with SilTAC® at 1 and 1.5 L for 72 h assessment with 72.4% and 92.7% mortality rates, respectively. Danisaraba® could give only 21.4% mortality in 72 h and about 20% mortality in 24 and 48 h post application. Seven days after treatment SilTAC® at 1.5 L caused significantly highest mortality rate (55.9%) compared with that of other treatments. Results of present study showed that SilTAC® had significant potential to control mature and immature stages of P. umli in apple trees, however, complementary trials are required before and general conclusion.
