چکیده
Dubas bug, Ommatissus lybicus Bergevin (1930), is one of the key pests of palm groves in Iran. Chemical control is currently used disregard of the pest population and its economic damage. The aim of this study was to determine O. lybicus economic injury level. The Pedigo formula (1999) was used to estimate the economic injury level of date palm. Thereby, an infected palm grove in each of three provinces of Kerman (Bam), Fars (Farashband), and Bushehr (Tang-e Zard) was chosen. Each experimental unit consisted of 3 identical trees, while samples were taken from the middle tree. Five pest densities with zero density and control were considered by using the existing densities or spraying. Droplets of honeydew and nymph counts were used for sampling. At harvest time, the total weight of the harvested date palm was determined. The results showed that EILs based on the number of nymphs were 1.06, 4.62 and 0.34 nymphs on each leaflets of date palm in Farashband in 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively. In Tang-e Zard EILs were recorded as 0.28 and 0.88 nymphs on each leaflets of date palm in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Similarly, in Bam, EILs were calculated as 0.27, 0.25 and 0.1 nymphs on each leaflets of date palm in 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively. EIL is an essential element of cost‐effective IPM programs and can be efficient tools for making decisions on the application of pesticides against O. lybicus.
