Comparative life table parameters of the English grain aphid, Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) on wheat, Triticum aestivum L., treated with micronutrients and bio-fertilizers under greenhouse conditions

چکیده
English grain aphid, Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) (Hem.: Aphididae), is one of the most abundant aphid species in wheat crops in Iran. In the current study, the effect of micronutrients (Librel Zinc and α-Iron) and bio-fertilizres (Probio and Biofarm) were investigated on life table parameters of S. avenae. The experiment was done in greenhouse conditions [at 25 ± 5 oC, 65 ± 5% RH and 16:8 h (L:D)] with four treatments and no fertilizer treatment as control. The life table parameters were analyzed according to age-stage, two sex life table theory, using TWO-SEX-MS Chart program. Results showed significant differences among different treatments in life table parameters of S. avenae. The life expectancy (ex) of S. avenae at first day of nymph stage was 14.57, 21.76, 31.4, 32.42 and 32.72 days on Biofarm, Probio, Librel Zinc, α-Iron and control, respectively. Also, the ex at first day of adult stage was 11.37, 20.92, 29.4, 29.65 and 29.78 days on Biofarm, Probio, control, Librel Zinc and α-Iron, respectively. Hence, the lowest and the highest ex of nymph and adult stages were recorded on Biofarm and α-Iron, respectively. The survival rates (lx) of adults were estimated 0.29, 0.5, 0.74, 0.78 and 0.83 on Biofarm, Probio, Librel Zinc, α-Iron and control treatments, respectively. The female age-stage specific fecundity (fx) values of the pest were recorded as 1 nymph at day 19 (Biofarm), 2.72 nymph at day 14 (Librel Zinc), 2.8 nymph at day14 (α-Iron) 3 nymph at day 42 (control) and 4 nymph at day13 (Probio). The age-specific net maternity (lxmx) values of S. avenae was 0.22, 0.52, 1.38, 1.57 and 1.77 nymphs on Biofarm (at day 27), Probio (at day 32), Librel Zinc (at day 21), α-Iron (at day 21) and control (at day 19) treatments, respectively. Therefore, the lowest and the highest lxmx of S. avenae were observed on Biofarm and control treatments, respectively. Our results indicated that using bio-fertilizers such as Probio and Biofarm had potential for decreasing the population of S. avenae; however, further field investigations are required before it could be recommended in the aphid IPM programs.
