چکیده
Bell pepper, Capsicum annuum L. is a high value crop due to its vitamins, polyphenols, folic acid and carotenoids as well as medicinal properties. The green peach aphid (GPA), Myzus persicae (Sulzer), is one of the most important pests and a major economic constraint for capsicum production worldwide. In the current study, the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) including Glomus caledonium, G. etanicatum, G. geosporum, G. intraradices and G. mosseae were investigated on biological parameters of M. persicae. The experiment was done in greenhouse conditions [at 25 ± 5 oC, 65 ± 5% RH and 16:8 (L:D) h] with five treatments and no mycorrhizal treatment as control. To maintain a suitable aphid colony, the individuals were weekly transferred from infested plants to new young plants every week. After rearing the GPA for several generations on the bell pepper plant, they were used in the experiments. The life table parameters were calculated based on age-stage, two-sex theory and bootstrap technique (40,000 replications). Parameters were compared by using paired bootstrap test based on CI of differences. Result showed that the longest developmental time of GPA nymph was observed on control (8.02 days) compared with that of other treatments. The shortest and the longest adult longevity and reproductive period of GPA were recorded on G. mosseae (16.00 and 11.52 days) and control (22.35 and 15.65 days), respectively. The longest total pre oviposion period (TPOP) of GPA was found on the control (9.02 days) without any significant difference compared with that of other treatments. Moreover, the lowest values of the gross reproductive rate (GRR) and net reproductive rate (R0) were observed in GPA fed on G. mosseae treatment (42.05 offspring and 37.54 offspring individual-1) while the highest values were recorded on control (56.70 offspring and 53.34 offspring individual-1), respectively. Also, the lowest intrinsic rate of increase (r) of GPA was obtained on G. mosseae treatment (0.2867 day-1) compared with that on other treatments. Thus, it is concluded that bell pepper in interaction with G. mosseae could affect population parameters of GPA under greenhouse conditions. Although the research shed light on the interaction of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi with a sucking pest, more precise studies are required to find the mechanism of this valuable phenomenon before any exploitation in applied manner.
