چکیده
Arthropoda infestation is a problem in many human dwellings and sanitories. The Clogmia albipunctata (Diptera: Psychodidae) is a cosmopolitan species. These are also known as drain flies, bathroom flies, or filter flies. The global distribution of C. albipunctata, has been reported as being between latitudes of 40º S and 42º N. The flies can breed in toilet bowls and tanks, sink or floor drains in basements during the summer with adults entering homes through open doors or windows. C. albipunctata could act as mechanical vectors for pathogenic agents in health service cares. This study was carried out to detect the current geographical distribution of C. albipunctata in the human dwelling environments of Mazandaran province, northern Iran. For this purpose, flies were collected from nine human dwellings and sanitories of Amol and Babol counties, North of Iran, during 2016-2017. Adult flies were captured directly in their resting sites using sterile test tubes and a sterile nylon net. They were immediately transferred to the Entomology Laboratory. Identification of adult drain flies was performed in accordance with a standard taxonomic key. The adult flies were collected throughout the year, with a peak in July. All specimens were identified as C. albipunctata (Diptera: Psychodinae). Sampling from sanitories and human dwellings infestations showed that the rest rooms, kitchens, toilets and bathrooms were the most commonly infested areas. The presence of these insects throughout the year in human dwellings as well as buildings related to the sanitory systems is a potential threat to public health, because of their possible role in the transmission of the healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Therefore, control of C. albipunctata in these places is recommended to avoid HAIs. It is necessary to determine the fauna and biology of drain flies and its role in transmission of pathogenic agents in different ecological area
