چکیده
Confused flour beetle is a common pest that causes serious losses to the flours and the other food stuffs in the silo, pantry and homes. In the present study, toxicity of two insecticides, fenitrothion and fenvalerate, against the adult confused flour beetles was evaluated. Insects were reared at 25° C and 16:8 L: D in the insectary room for several generations. Adults with less than two days old were selected for bioassay. The concentrations were 1000, 621, 386, 250, 149, 0 and 400, 249, 155, 100, 60 and 0 ppm to fenitrothion and fenvalerate, respectively. Bioassay method that used for this experiment was filter paper residue test. Thirty adult insects were used for every replication. Mortality percent was calculated after determining 24 hours as endpoint for these experiments. Polo plus software was used for analyzing and calculating of different lethal concentrations (5-99 %). Results showed that LC50 were 438, 171 ppm for fenitrothion and fenvalerate, respectively. Analyzing of dose–response curve showed that amount of slope in the fenvalerate treatment was more in comparison to it in the fenitrothion treatment. These results indicate that fenitrothion and fenvalerate can be considered as suitable candidates in the chemical control of confused flour beetle. Not only, new studies are necessary to improve our knowledge about insecticide application against stored pests but also it is very important to open the new opportunities for using of new insecticides to reduce the risk of chemical control to non-target organism in the environment. We hope result of this scientific research help to a better use of insecticides in the confused flour beetle control and the similar pests as a part of post harvest management.
