چکیده
The tribe Lithosiini is one of the three monophyletic tribes within the subfamily Arctiinae. Arctiinae is estimated to be contained 11000 species approximately; while Lithosiini is composed of almost 2000 identified species. The monophyly of the Lithosiini is supported by a single character, an enlarged basal molar area of larval mandibles. The tribe is also characterized by overlapping of the forewings considerably at rest, loss of vein M2 and common stalk of veins M3 and CuA1 in the forewing, and lack of at least one of the veins of the hindwing. Members of the tribe are distributed throughout the world. In this study, a taxonomic survey was carried out on Lithosiini and a considerable number of specimens were collected from different parts of Iran during 2013-2016. Sampling was conducted using light traps. Additionally, the specimens deposited in the Hayk Mirzayans Insect Museum (HMIM), Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection (IRIPP), were examined. Since the species included in this tribe are very similar to each other in their female genitalia, the male genital features were used for identification of the species. The genitalia dissections were followed Clarke (1941) and Robinson (1976). As a result, 15 species in seven genera were identified, including a new species from the genus Katha. The identification keys for all the Iranian genera and species of Lithosiini are newly provided. This key is mainly based on external morphological characters of adults, such as the color of both fore- and hindwings, as well as the color of abdomen, forewing and sometimes hindwing patterns and absence or presence of proboscis. The identification key which is presented here has an advantage of male genitalia characters including the relative size of the aedeagus compared to the length of valve, shape and size of the uncus, absence or presence of digitus on the valvae, shape of the vinculum, and size and number of cornuti of the vesica. The Iranian species of Lithosiini which were identified in the present study are listed below:
