چکیده
Birjand with 2862 hectares plantations is center of the Jujube product of Iran. During 2015-2016 an outbreak of a new pest on red date, Zyzyphus jujubae was occurred in some orchards of Birjand which are located in Khusf and Behdan, Khorasan-e Jonubi Province. The collected larvae were reared in laboratory on Jujube leaf discs in petri dishes prepared with water agar and the emerged adult moths were identified by the second author as Bucculatrix albella Stainton, 1867 (Lep.: Bucculatricidae). The young larvae were observed as leaf miners inside the damaged leaves of Z. jujubae in Khusf and Behdan; while the older larvae often moved out of the mines and dispersed via ballooning from one stem to another one using silk threads. The pupation took placed on leaves or branches. The larvae then built their elliptical cocoon and hibernated within it on bough or other shelters. It seems that, B. albella could be a sever pest of Jujube in Iran in the future and may be of such economic importance that chemical control would be needed. This species is newly reported for the fauna of Iran.
