First record the family Diastatidae (Diptera) from Iran

Diastatidae is a small family of acalyptrate Diptera that occurs in all zoogeographical regions, except Australasian, with the greatest number of species in the Palaearctic region. This family includes 49 valid species, of which two genera and 29 species have been recognized from the Palaearctic region. Before this study only Campichoeta zernyi Duda, 1934, was known from the Middle East region (Lebanon).
A single specimen of this family was collected from Fars province in May 2012 and later identified as Diastata adusta Meigen, 1830. This species is easily distinguished from other species by the following characters: Antenna orange, flagellomere brownish dorsoapically. Femora brown, tibia and tarsi yellowish. Arista plumose, length of aristal rays about two third width of third antennal segment. Wings hyaline, dm-cu with a large dark spot extending half width of cell r4+5, costa with humeral crossvein and subcostal breaks; halter yellowish. D. adusta has been recorded from Europe, North Africa and East Palaearctic region. This species is first recorded from Iran and the Middle East.
