چکیده
Also known as picture-winged flies, the family Ulidiidae with about 700 species, is the third largest family of the superfamily Tephritoidea. They are distributed predominantly in the New World and, to a lesser degree, in the Palaearctic Region, with few species widespread into tropical Africa, Asia, and into Oceania. Three specimens of ulidiids were collected by standard sweeping net in the Iranian northwestern province of West Azerbaijan in July 2011 and later identified as Seioptera vibrans (L.). The genus Seioptera is distinguished from other genera of the tribe Seiopterini by having completely bare R1 vein as well as apically narrowed cell r4+5. The species S. vibrans is characterized by yellowish brown antenna and frons plus shining black ocellar triangle, occiput, thorax and abdomen. Wing hyaline with apical spot at the end of veins R2+3 and R4+5; pterostigma brown. This species has been recorded from Europe, East Palaearctic, Middle East and the Nearctic Region. This is the first record of Seioptera vibrans for the Iranian fauna.
