چکیده
The family Piophilidae, with 69 described species in 23 genera worldwide, are most diverse in the northern temperate regions. The skipper flies are small to medium-sized (3-8 mm), brown to metallic black or bluish flies. Bristles are usually strong and black and the body is sometimes densely setulose. The wings are usually clear and iridescent, but some genera (eg, Mycetaulus) have brown-marked wings. Many Piophilidae species visit decaying carrion of vertebrate animals and some species have been reared from birds’ nests, dung, rotten wood or fungi. The family Piophilidae was known from Iran by the single record, Piophila casei (L.) from Iran prior to this study. Also known as cheese fly, P. casei is one of the most important pests of cheese and meat. In the course of sampling flies from Alburz province, eight specimens of this family were collected by standard sweeping net in May 2012 and later identified as Mycetaulus bipunctata (Fallén). The species M. bipunctata has been recorded from Europe (Britain, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands) and East Palaearctic region. M. bipunctata is newly recorded for the Iranian fauna.
