Scientific gap in the beekeeping industry in Iran

Among all pollinator insects, honey bee plays a key role in agricultural crops pollination. Honey bees are also considered as an exclusive insect with the capability of supplying edible food for human. Of all the main, beekeeping and its related industries provide a substantial job opportunities in different countries. Unfortunately, over the last years honey bee has been faced with a serious syndrome called colony collapse disorder (CCD) in which a mysteriously disappearing of adult bees occur. By this event many beekeepers suffer an immense loss of their hives. A considerable concern from Iranian beekeepers has been expressed recently which is an alarm of CCD in beekeeping industry. Despite all these facts, many scientific gaps exist in the area of honey bee studies in Iran. A large part of the missing knowledge is supposed to be linked to insufficient scientific projects, lack of specialists, and lack of well-equipped research labs and apiaries. Here in the present paper, the current status of honey bee studies in Iran will be criticized with the hope to draw a guideline to fill the gaps in a time table framework.
