Evaluation of persistence rate of abamectin, emamectin benzoate, acetamiprid and flubendiamide on Trichogramma brassicae and T. evanescens under semi-field conditions
Abstract
The parasitoids, Trichogramma spp. (Hym.: Trichogrammatidae) are the most important biological control agents of insect pests. In this study persistence rate of four insecticides (abamectin, emamectin benzoate, acetamiprid and flubendiamide) was evaluated against egg parasitoids (T. brassicae and T. evanescens) of tomato leaf miner, Tuta absoluta. Field recommended rate of each insecticide was applied on tomato leaves by a hand sprayer. According to IOBC/WPRS Working Group, the treated leaves at four different time intervals (3, 5, 16 and 31 days post treatment) were exposed to the parasitoids for a period of 24 h. Flubendiamide and acetamiprid with less than five days persistence classified as short lived insecticides (class A) for both parasitoids. Abamectin was slightly persistent (Class B) and emamectin benzoate was moderately persistent (Class C) for the tested parasitoids.
