Seasonal fluctuations of the peach twig borer, Anarsia lineatella Zeller in Ben county, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, Iran

The Peach twig borer, Anarsia lineatella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is one of the most important economic pests of peach in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province Iran. The present study was aimed to investigate the seasonal fluctuation of the pest so that samples were collected using sex pheromone (Anemone) and Delta trap (Tripheron). The study was carried out in Toba orchards of Ben county in 5-years, 2010-2016 and regardless varieties of peaches. Traps were installed in 1.5 meter height of the tree. Traps were installed with a density of one trap per half hectare. The sticky floors of traps and pheromone capsules were replaced once in a month. Sampling was carried out in Saturday and Wednesday of each week during April to September. Also, daily temperature data was provided from Meteorological Organization. The relationship between mean of samples and the average temperature was investigated. On the basis of the emergence of adult insects and sampled in five years, 3-4 generation for this pest was observed. The first flight peak in every five years of sampling were in late May to early June; the second peak in mid-July 2010 and in 2011, 2014 and 2015 was observed in early July. In 2015, second peak was observed in the last week of June. The third peak of the population showed a lot of fluctuations, mid-July in 2014 and 2015, August in 2014 and early September in 2010-11. In general, the first generation appeared in the second week of May and Continued for 40 days, the second generation from late June to late July for 36 days, and the third generation has been from early August to late September for 57 days. There was a direct relationship between population change and environmental conditions (temperature and humidity). The temperature showed the most effect on the pest population changes. Population peak occurred in 15 to 26°C and 44-63 % relative humidity, respectively. In the years with higher average temprature average, the moth had four generations per year, thus the number of generations and peaks can be used against of this pest in the development of integrated management.
