چکیده
Introduction:
Mosquitoes such as Culex pipiens complex are a significant threat to the health of humans and livestock . This species is the most common culicidae in urban areas. The aims of this study were to identification and survey behavioural and physiological aspects of culex pipiens that blood feeding indoor human dwellings in Amol City during cold seasons.
Materials and methods: From November 2016 to April 2017, adult mosquitoes were collected from human dwellings in Amol City by hand-catch collection methods. Adult specimens were keyed to species level using standard morphological keys.
Specimens were transferred to the insectary of Babol University of Medical Sciences. In order to study behavioral and Physiological Aspects of Culex pipiens , they were reared to colonies (populations) establishment. To determine the degree stenogamy or eurygamy behaviors, mosquitoes were kept in a 30 × 30 × 30 and 15 × 15 × 15 cm cages. Also autogeny and anautogeny behaviors of mosquitoes were studied with adult females feeding on sucrose 5%.
Results:
Totally 220 dults of culex mosquitoes were collected . Mosquitoes were only included female Culex pipiens. In cold seasons, activity of this species in indoor found to be started from middle of November and extended till April. In indoor conditions, females taken a blood-meal. Also, this population was stenogamous and autogenous.
discussion:
Results revealed that in urban area of Amol City, females Culex pipiens form molestus to be active indoor human dwellings during cold seaseons that cause considerable nuisance and annoyance to man by their bites or stings, and with regard to that Culex pipiens is vector of arboviral pathogens and parasites such as West Nile, St Louis, Sindbis and some lymphatic filariasis in some parts of the world and also It is the dominant species in urban area, further studies are necessary. This study is frist report about activity of this species in indoor from Amol and Mazandaran.
