چکیده
Mantids are ambush predators, feeding mainly on varieties of insects. Being predatory nature they are very important for study concerning with the biological control. During the present study many extensive surveys were carried out in various districts of Sindh and about 192 specimens were capture from different vegetation bushes, grasses, bark of tree, and agriculture lands. 16 species belong to 05 families viz: Empusidae, Eremiaphilidae, Mantidae, Liturgusidae and Tarachodidae were come in collection. Amongst total sampling 09 species i-e Iris radians (Uvorov,1930), I.oratoria (Linne,1758), I. splendida (Uvorov,1922), Humbertiella indica (Saussure,1869), Eremiaphila arabica (Saussure,1871), Blepharopsis mendica (Fabricius,1775), Empusau nicornis (Saussure, 1871), Hierodula transcausica (Brunner von wattenwyl, 1878) and Statilia ocellata (Uvarov,1922) were re-described and 07 species namely: Polyspilota aeruginosa (Geoze, 1778) Archimantis sobrina (Saussure, 1872), A. monstrosa (Wood-Mason, 1878), A. latistyla (Serville, 1839) Diephobe infuscate (Saussure, 1870) Rivetina baetica (Rambur, 1839) and Mantis religiosa (Linnaeus, 1758) was first entry from Sanghar Sindh. Abdomen counting segments, sexual dimorphism, morphology of antennae, size and type of body and length of wing difference was observed for the sexual dimorphism in mantids.

It was also noticed that Mantinae and Tarachodinae captured in fair numbers compare to Blepharodinae. During the present study, different ootheca of praying mantids were also collected which provides key base to the study of reproductive biology and cladistic relationship. Beside this, identification keys for sub-generic categories along with illustration and photographs were provided for future references and people associated with agriculture especially plant protection and pest management will be benefited toward an efficient application of the biological control. Present study recommends that if more extensive survey would be carried out in the unscathed areas of remaining districts of Sindh it may let to the discovery of some new taxa and more records. Further, comparison between global and oriental fauna of Mantodea was also carried out.
