چکیده
The English grain aphid, Sitobion avenae (F.), is an important pest of wheat due to direct sucking damage and transmission of viruses. Due to hazardous effect of chemical pesticides, the use of induced resistance has been proposed in recent years in insect pest control. Induced resistance develops in plants in response to the feeding of the pest. In this research, the wheat resistance was induced via pre-infestation for 6 days. Then, a number of treatments including Biomin zinc spray, amending the soil with Probio 96 (Bacillus subtilis UTM96), Biomin zinc + Pre-infestation and Probio 96 + Pre-infestation period were employed to assess their effects on the aphid control. Evaluations were made on secondary metabolites in the leaves as well as life table parameters of the aphid in greenhouse conditions at 25±5° C, 60±5% RH and 16:8 h L: D. The life table parameters were calculated based on the age-stage, two-sex life table. Secondary metabolites varied significantly among treatments. The highest total phenol contents were observed on Probio 96 + Pre-infestation period (298.20 mg/ml) and Probio 96 (292.17 mg/ml), respectively, compared with those of other treatments. Life table parameters of the aphid were significantly affected by treatments. The lowest values of gross reproductive rate (GRR) were observed on Probio 96 + Pre-infestation (5.85 offspring) and Biomin zinc + Pre-infestation (5.71 offspring) while the highest value was recorded on Biomin zinc (14.44 offspring). The net reproductive rate (R0) varied from 1.533 to 6.887 offspring individual-1, with the lowest and the highest values on Probio 96 + Pre-infestation period and control, respectively. Also, the lowest intrinsic rate of increase (r) and finite rate of increase (λ) were observed on Probio 96 + Pre-infestation period (0.022 and 1.022 day-1, respectively) and the highest values on control (0.105 and 1.110 day-1, respectively). Therefore, it is concluded that Probio 96 + Pre-infestation period in wheat plants may induce systemic resistance against S. avenae.
