چکیده
The contact toxicity of essential oils from Thymus kotschyanus L. and Satureja hortensis L., was investigated against Brevicoryne brassicae L. (Hem.: Aphididae) adults. Essential oils were isolated via hydrodistillation from dry aerial parts of plants using a Clevenger-type apparatus. The mortality of adults was evaluated at different concentrations (25000, 35000 and 50000 ppm) and times, by dipping method. The highest concentrations (50000 ppm) of T. kotschyanus and S. hortensis essential oils caused 100% mortality after 16 and 20 h, respectively, while the lowest concentration (25000 ppm) of both essential oils caused 100% mortality after 20 and 24 h, respectively. Based on Probit analysis, T. kotschyanus essential oil (LC50=7950 ppm) was significantly more toxic than S. hortensis (LC50=10950 ppm), but there were no significant differences among LT50 values at various concentrations. Results showed that T. kotschyanus essential oil is more effective than that of S. hortensis in cabbage aphid control and may be used in its management after more investigations.
