چکیده
Tetranychus urticae Koch is a serious phytophagous pest species that enters into reproductive facultative diapause for overwintering. Cold hardening is induced during diapause for successful overwintering. Post-diapause longevity and fecundity of diapausing females that had been tolerated low temperature treatments (-13 and -22 °C for 2h) were studied after ending diapause. Diapause was induced by long-night photoperiods experienced during embryonic development and was expressed at the adult stage in females. 2h exposure to -13 °C did not affect adult females' post-diapause fecundity and longevity compared with non-diapausing control females but 2h of -22 °C decreased both of the mentioned parameters significantly. Although T. urticae categorized as chill tolerant species but temperatures near to its SCP can cause severe injuries.
